WATERING MATURE TREES , SHRUBS & BAMBOO
We recommend soaking the root ball with a root stimulant solution “Powerfeed” after planting & thereafter fortnightly for 3 months.
Apply “Powerfeed” after general watering – 30 ml per 10 litres water. This planting method stimulates rapid root growth into the natural soil encouraging strong and robust growth.
Trees / bamboo & mature shrubs :
Water in thoroughly after plant ing ( 40 – 50L)
If it has been a dry winter / early spring, twice weekly might be required.
From mid-spring, use the following as a guide :
First month : Over 28 degrees : water daily (approx 20 - 40 litres ) per watering - depending on size of plant purchased
Eg : 40 / 50L tub : 20L daily, 100L / 150L bags 40L daily
Under 28 degrees : water every 2 – 3 days (20 – 40 litres)
Note : Do not expect a light rainfall (under 20mm) to substitute a watering
2nd month : Over 30 degrees water every 2 - 3 days : 40 – 50 litres (depending on plant variety)
: Under 30 degrees water every 3 - 5 days : 40 – 50 litres
Stay with this regime for the first summer
2nd year & 3rd year: Start watering from about early October unless we have had exceptionally dry winter, then start early September : ( 50 – 70 litres ONCE a week (depending on variety and maturity of tree)
If temp are consistently over 28 degrees, a mid week water would be beneficial (50 – 70L).
From year 4, once a fortnight from mid-spring, unless consistently over 28 degrees, then a weekly water would be beneficial (60-120L - depending on variety).
Note : If planting trees in winter, water once weekly until they shoot., then follow above regime.
(Exception – an above normal wet winter)

NB : IF EVER YOU NOTICE UNSEASONAL YELLOWING OF THE LEAVES AND LEAF DROP, THIS IS A SIGN THAT THE ROOT BALL HAS DRIED OUT. IN ORDER TO REDUCE TRANSPIRATION THE TREE THINS OUT, AND DROPS LEAVES. WATER IMMEDIATELY AND INCREASE VOLUME OF WATER PER DRINK.
CHECK PLANTS REGULARY IN THE FIRST YEAR AS SOIL CONDITIONS VARY CONSIDERABLY
BAMBOO LEAVES SHRINK & CLOSE UP WHEN THE ROOT BALL HAS DRIED UP. THIS IS THE FIRST SIGN OF INSUFFICIENT WATERING. WHILE THE PLANT WILL RECOVER QUICKLY ONCE WATERED, IT IS NOT ADVISABLE TO LET THIS HAPPEN TOO OFTEN AS IT WILL CAUSE THE PLANT TO STRESS.
